The nationally-ranked men's cross country squad will be in action this weekend at the Pre-NCAA Meet, which takes place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville on Saturday morning. The site will be the host of the men's and women's NCAA Championships meet next month. Villanova competes on Saturday morning in the Men's Seeded race, which begins at 9:30 a.m. and is the first of four races that will be held during the day.

There are eight nationally-ranked teams, including the Wildcats, in the 40-team field for the seeded section. Villanova goes into the weekend ranked No. 12 in the latest national poll released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the highest regular season ranking for the Wildcats since the 2004 campaign.

Villanova is also one of four BIG EAST teams running in Louisville on Saturday, with the others being the host Cardinals, Cincinnati and Georgetown. In the most recent Mid-Atlantic Region poll the Wildcats and the Hoyas are ranked second and third, respectively.

The season has already been a good one for Villanova, which won the team title at the Paul Short Run by placing three runners among the top nine overall finishers. In a field of 37 teams the Wildcats had 69 team points to easily come in ahead of William & Mary (100), Georgetown (101) and the rest of the competing teams.

Sophomore Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia) has been the top finisher for Villanova at each of its first two meets this season. He came in fourth at the Paul Short Run and was second overall (top collegiate finisher) at the season-opening Main Line Invitational.

Senior Mathew Mildenhall (Auckland, New Zealand) and freshman Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) came in seventh and ninth, respectively, at the Paul Short meet and the Wildcats had a split of just 24 seconds between their top five runners. Junior Greg Morrin (Hockessin, Del.) placed 23rd and redshirt freshman Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) finished 26th to help Villanova earn the team title.

In addition to the seeded race at 9:30 on Saturday morning the Wildcats will also have individual runners in the Men's Unseeded race. That race begins at 10:45 a.m.
