HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Alex Tully (Little Rock, Ark.) crossed the finish line with a time of 19:45 and cruised to a nine-second margin of victory in the four-mile race at the Haverford Invitational on Friday afternoon. There was no team scoring in the event, in which Villanova had 11 runners competing plus four other unattached entries.

Tully shaved nearly 20 seconds off his time on the same course in the season-opening Main Line Invitational a few weeks ago and led a field of 110 runners that were in competition in Friday's race. Runners for the Wildcats occupied the top four finishing spots and accounted for eight of the first 10 competitors across the finish line.

Redshirt freshman Brian Basili (South Orange, N.J.) placed third overall in a time of 19:56 and was followed by junior Joseph LoRusso (Oak Hill, Va.) in fourth place (20:02). Two other Villanova runners finished back-to-back, as senior Brian Tetreault (Cinnaminson, N.J.) came in eighth (20:16) and redshirt freshman Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished ninth (20:23).

Three more Wildcats were in the top 20, led by redshirt freshman Chris Pietrocarlo (Hampstead, N.H.) in 15th place (20:31). Sophomore Philip O'Connell (Rye, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Chris Fitzsimons (Hamden, Conn.) placed 17th (20:36) and 20th (20:53), respectively.

Rounding out the lineup for Villanova was junior Daniel Norman (Lexington, Ky.) in 22nd place (20:54), followed by junior Joseph Capecci (New Hope, Pa.) and redshirt freshman Richie Bohny (Holmdel, N.J.) in 35th and 36th with matching times of 21:15.

The group of four unattached runners was paced by freshman Ron Denault (Aurora, Ont.), who covered the four-mile course in 19:54 and was the individual runner-up to Tully. Freshman Tom Trainer (Havertown, Pa.) finished sixth (20:09) and was followed by classmates Robert Hurlbut (Rochester, N.Y.) in 10th place (20:26) and Charlie Bates (Hoboken, N.J.) in 25th (20:59).

Next up for the Wildcats is the BIG EAST Championships this coming Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
