Men's Cross Country - Main Line Invitational

Villanova competed at the local Main Line Invitational on September 18, 2015.

On Tiernan: One of the top cross country and distance runners in program history ... Became the second men's runner in school history to be in the individual NCAA champion in cross country ... Finished his collegiate career as a combined eight-time All-American and 11-time BIG EAST champion ... Only athlete in BIG EAST history to win the conference cross country title four times ... Only men's runner from Villanova to be a four-time cross country All-American ...  Prior to his final collegiate season (2016 cross country), was an Olympian for Australia at the 2016 Rio Olympics ... Was the first student-athlete from Villanova to compete in the Olympics while still a current member of a Wildcats team since 2000 (women's swimmer Maddy Crippen) ... Was a four-time All-American in the 5000 meters, including once indoors and three times outdoors ... 2016 International Competition: Was named to the Australia Olympic Team on July 13 and will compete in the 5000 meters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August ... Finished in fourth place in the 5000 meters with a time of 13:41.37 at the Australian Athletics Championships on March 31 ... Later qualified for the Olympics when he posted a personal best time of 13:20.88 at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 29 ... Solidified his spot on the Australia team when he notched a first place finish at the British Milers Grand Prix in Solihull, England on July 9 ... Also competed during the summer at the Savo Games in Lapinlahti, Finland (3:45.15 in the 1500 meters) and the Kuortane Games in Kuortane, Finland (7:54.12 in the 3000 meters).

2016 Outdoor: Registered the best finish by a Villanova athlete at the outdoor NCAA Championships in eight years when he finished third in the 5000 meters ... Was a first team All-American in the 5000 meters for the second time in his career, and earned his third outdoor All-America honor in the event overall ... Recorded a time of 13:27.07 in his race at the NCAA Championships, which was the second-fastest time of his career at the time of the race ... Qualified for the NCAA Championships after posting a time of 14:10.26 to finish fifth overall at the NCAA East Preliminary ... Won his third consecutive BIG EAST title with a winning time of 14:12.53 at the conference championships ... Recorded a then-personal best time of 13:25.78 at the Payton Jordan Invitational in his first race of the outdoor season ... The time is the second-fastest run in school history. 

2016 Indoor: Made headlines for his success despite running only three races during the season ... Individual BIG EAST champion in both the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters ... His performance marked the third straight year he has won the 5000 meters at the indoor BIG EAST Championships ... Earned All-BIG EAST accolades in both the 3K and the 5K for the third straight year ... His winning times were 8:13.16 and 14:03.53, respectively ... Named the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet for his double wins ... Earlier in the season won the invitational section of the 3000 meters with a personal best time of 7:48.55 at the FastTrack National Invite ... 2015 Cross Country: Named an All-American for the third straight year and became only the third Villanova runner to be a three-time cross country All-American ... His runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships was the best by a Wildcats athlete in more than 40 years ... Became the first male runner in BIG EAST history to win three consecutive individual conference titles ... Selected as the Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year for the second time in his career ... Won five of his six races during the season and set school records on both 8,000 meter and 10,000 meter courses ... Set the 10K school record with a time of 29:11.1 at the NCAA Championships and came in second overall in the race to lead a group of three Villanova individuals who qualified for the national meet ... Advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 5000 meters and registered a 10th place finish at the national meet ... Recorded a time of 13:55.81 and earned second team All-America accolades ... Came in fifth overall at the NCAA East Preliminary with a season-best time of 13:54.00 in the national semifinal race ... Produced a winning time of 14:36.85 at the BIG EAST Championships and helped Villanova successfully defend its team title at the conference meet ...  Due to an injury was limited to competing only at the BIG EAST Championships ... Individual conference champion in the 5000 meters for the second straight year and also registered a runner-up finish in the 3000 meters ... Earned All-BIG EAST honors in both events to help the Wildcats win the team title at the conference meet for the second straight year ... Recorded a winning time of 14:18.04 in the 5000 meters ... Crossed the finish line in the 3000 meters in 8:18.73 and was part of a 1-2-3 sweep in the event for Villanova.

2014 Cross Country: Earned All-America, All-Mid Atlantic Region and All-BIG EAST honors for the second straight year ... Repeated as the individual BIG EAST champion and helped Villanova defend its team titles at both the conference meet and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional ... Top finisher on the team in all five of his starts during the season ... Finished in 18th place at the NCAA Championships and was second at the NCAA regional meet ... Posted a winning time of 23:45.8 at the BIG EAST Championships and became the third athlete in conference history to win consecutive individual titles ... Captured the individual title at the prestigious Washington Invitational with a time of 23:00 on the 8000 meter course at Jefferson Park Golf Course ... 2014 Outdoor: First team All-American in the 5000 meters ... His time of 13:31.25 at the NCAA Championships shattered by six seconds the previous personal best he had run during the indoor season (the old mark of 13:37.73 is the indoor school record) ... The mark of 13:31.25 is also the third-fastest in school history outdoors and trails only Sydney Maree, who ran two faster races during his Villanova career ... Tiernan's time is the 12th fastest ever at the NCAA Championships meet and he is one of just four athletes in school history to record a top-eight finish outdoors in the 5000 meters ... Was an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships after finishing fourth in his heat and eighth overall in the national semifinals at the NCAA East Preliminary, where he posted a time of 14:14.57 ... Also was the BIG EAST individual champion with a winning time of 13:56.01 at the conference meet ... Won that race by a margin of more than 26 seconds ... 2013-14 Indoor: Set the indoor school record in the 5000 meters during the season and went on to be both a first team All-American and a BIG EAST champion in the event ... Set a Villanova mark with a time of 13:37.73 at the Iowa State Classic to break the previous record of 13:38.3 set by Sydney Maree more than 30 years ago ... Came in second in the race at Iowa State after leading for the majority of the race against a senior from Wisconsin ... Placed seventh in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Championships with a time of 14:00.83 ... BIG EAST champion with a winning time of 14:04.26 at the conference meet ... Also came in second and earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 3000 meters with a runner-up time of 8:10.71 ... Opened the season at the Penn State National and set both a meet and facility record at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track by winning the Invitational section of the 3000 meters in 7:57.75.

2013 Cross Country: Made an immediate impact on the national level in his first taste of collegiate competition ... Earned All-America honors and was the Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year ... Individual champion at both the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region and the BIG EAST Championships ... First Villanova runner to win each of those titles since Bobby Curtis in 2007 ... Was the top finisher for the Wildcats at every scored meet during the season ... Finished in ninth place at the NCAA Championships with a time of 30:15.7 ... His finish is the highest for a Villanova runner since Curtis came in fourth in 2007 ... Won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a time of 29:37 and came in first at the BIG EAST Championships in 23:51 ... Led the Wildcats to the team title at the Princeton Invitational with a third place overall finish (23:50) ... Came in fourth at the Chile Pepper Festival in Arkansas (24:27.0) to help Villanova earn a runner-up finish behind the host Razorbacks ... Individual winner at the four-mile Main Line Invitational (19:09.48), a performance which earned him BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors ... Made his collegiate debut at the Friend Big Five Invitational and came in ninth on the 6,000 meter course with a time of 18:56.46.

St. Joseph's College: Racing for the U20 Australian team was a triple champion in 2012 in the 1500 meters (3:50.67), 5000 meters (14:40.59) and cross country ... Previously was the 2011 Australian Junior (U18) cross country champion ... Winner of the Southern Cross University 10K road race with a time of 30:34.
