Men's Cross Country at Paul Short Run

Villanova competed at the Paul Short Run on September 30, 2011 at Lehigh.

On Gibney: One of the team's most experienced runners and a top returner ... Poised to have his most successful cross country season ... Will be expected to be one of the team's leading runners throughout the year.

2011 Cross Country: Earned All-Mid Atlantic Region and All-BIG EAST accolades ... Placed fourth on the team and 109th overall at the NCAA Championships as Villanova placed 13th as a team, 10 spots higher than last season ... Second runner on the team and was fifth overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a career-best 10K time of 30:42 ... Led the team and finished fifth overall at the BIG EAST Championships with a career-best time of 23:41.4, helping Villanova win its first team title since 2002 ... Ran identical 8K times of 24:41 at the Paul Short Run and the Wisconsin adidas Invitational ... Led the team with a 15th place finish at the Paul Short Run and was second on the squad (73rd overall) at the Wisconsin meet.

2011 Outdoor: Anchored Villanova to a Championship of America title in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays, the 94th overall Penn Relays championship for the Wildcats and the 24th in the DMR ... Also anchored the 4xMile relay at the Penn Relays ... Advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 1500 meters after notching the fastest overall time in the quarterfinals at the NCAA East Regional ... Won his heat with the mark of 3:46.29 in the quarterfinals to garner an automatic berth in the championships ... Earlier in the season won the 1500 meters at the Larry Ellis Invitational with a season-best time of 3:44.95 ... All-BIG EAST in the 800 meters with a third place finish at the conference championships, where he set a new personal best with a time of 1:48.66 in the finals.

2011 Indoor: Ran the first sub-four minute mile of his career with a time of 3:58.12 at the Flotrack Husky Classic, where he placed fourth overall in his race ... Advanced to the NCAA Championships in the Mile and also received All-BIG EAST honors for a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST Championships ... Registered a time of 4:08.37 in the finals at the conference meet ... Ran in 4:02.25 in the preliminaries of the NCAA Championships ... Won the Mile at the NYRR II meet with a time of 4:04.99 in his first race of the season ... Ran the opening leg of the distance medley relay at the Alex Wilson Invitational, a race in which enabled Villanova to qualify for the NCAA Championships ... Also anchored the 4x800 meter relay squad to a second place finish in a time of 7:28.28 at the BIG EAST Championships.

2010 Cross Country: Did not make his season debut until late October when he won the Haverford Invitational in 20:06.52 (four miles), coming in first out of 81 runners ... Went on to be in Villanova's top seven in postseason meets at the BIG EAST Championships, NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and NCAA Championships ... Placed 29th at the BIG EAST meet with an 8K time of 26:10.8 and was the team's fifth finisher ... Came in sixth on the team at both the Mid-Atlantic Regional and the national championships meet ... Had a 10K time of 31:48 at the Mid-Atlantic meet.

2010 Outdoor: Redshirted.

2010 Indoor: BIG EAST champion in the Mile for the second straight year with a time of 4:09.99 in the finals of the conference championships ... Was slightly faster with a mark of 4:09.79 in the preliminaries ... Also came in first in the Mile at the Haverford Invitational ... Following the BIG EAST meet missed the rest of the season with an injury.

2009 Cross Country: Came in 22nd at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional to help Villanova advance as a team to the NCAA Championships ... Earned All-Mid Atlantic Region honors for his performance ... Was a consistent scorer for the Wildcats in the postseason meets and ranked consistently among the team's top five runners ... Came in 19th overall at the BIG EAST Championships ... Ran a 10K time of 31:10 at the Mid-Atlantic Regional ... Came in 21st place at the Panorama Farms Invitational.

2009 Outdoor: All-American in the 1500 meters with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships ... Recorded a personal best time of 3:40.58 in the finals at the national meet ... Previously came in second at the NCAA East Regional ... Won the 1500 meters at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet to earn his entry into the postseason meets ... Placed sixth in the 800 meters at the BIG EAST Championships ... Anchored the distance medley relay team to a Championship of America title at the Penn Relays and was also the anchor of the 4xMile relay squad which placed fifth ... The Penn Relays title was the 93rd in Villanova's history and the 23rd in the DMR.

2009 Indoor: Arrived at Villanova in January after beginning college in Australia ... Made his Wildcat debut with a victory in the Mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational ... Went on to win the BIG EAST title in the event with a season-best time of 4:06.26 in the finals at the conference meet.

Xavier College Melbourne: Starred in the 800 meters and the 1500 meters while being coached by former Olympian Pat Scammell ... Won the 2007 Australian U20 championships in both events just a few months after graduating from high school ... Set what were then personal bests in both events at the IAAF Melbourne Grand Prix in 2007 and 2008 ... Won several medals in both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters at the Australian All-Schools Championships.

Personal: Born 6/16/88 in Albury, Australia ... Comes from a family of runners and he, his father Paul and his brother Daniel have all won Victorian state championships in the 1500 meters ... Represented the state of Victoria along with brothers Daniel and Tim at the 2007 Australian Cross Country Championships ... Studied in Melbourne as a boarding student during his final two years of high school ... Graduated from Villanova with a degree in English in the spring of 2011 and is currently enrolled in graduate school.
