Men's Track Has Three Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS - The list of track All-Academic honorees was announced this week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and Villanova had three student-athletes be rewarded for their success in the classroom. In addition the Wildcats were named to the All-Academic Tea m for the program's overall academic success.
Villanova posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.16 for the 2012-13 academic year while continuing to shine in competition. Between the indoor and outdoor seasons the Wildcats had a total of nine All-America selections.
The three student-athletes to earn All-Academic honors are sophomore distance runner Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.), junior sprinter Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) and sophomore distance runner Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia).
Denault joined a prestigious club at Villanova when he became the program's 35th person to run a sub-four minute mile. He registered a time of 3:59.39 at the Alex Wilson Invitational during the indoor season and also was the BIG EAST champion in the event. Denault also ran a leg of the 4x800 meter relay and helped the Wildcats to a runner-up finish at the conference meet. He went on to compete in the NCAA Championships in the Mile. During the outdoor season Denault earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 1500 meters and advanced to the national semifinal round at the NCAA Championships in the event. He is majoring in Marketing.
Ellison continued to excel for Villanova this season and qualified for the NCAA Championships both indoors and outdoors. He successfully defended his BIG EAST title outdoors in the 800 meters and reached the national semifinals of the event at the NCAA Championships. He also earned All-BIG EAST honors outdoors in the 4x400 meter relay and helped the Wildcats to a third place finish. During the indoor season Ellison competed at the national meet in the 800 meters and previously was All-BIG EAST in the 500 meters with a third place finish at the BIG EAST Championships. He is majoring in Communication.
McEntee was the BIG EAST champion indoors in the 3000 meters and also anchored Villanova to a fifth place finish in the distance medley relay at the NCAA Championships. He continued his success outdoors, where he earned first team All-America honors in the 1500 meters with a seventh place national finish. McEntee scored team points in the 5000 meters at the outdoor BIG EAST Championships and registered a fifth place finish. He is majoring in Comprehensive Sciences.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
There were a total of 448 student-athletes to earn All-Academic honors and 111 teams selected to the All-Academic Team.
