Men's Track Has Eight Qualifiers for NCAA East Regional

VILLANOVA, Pa.--Qualifiers for the preliminary rounds of the national championships were announced on Thursday afternoon and Villanova will have eight athletes competing in four different events at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville next week. The meet will be held from Thursday through Saturday at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus.
The eight qualifiers from the Wildcats are junior Brian Basili (South Orange, N.J.), junior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.), senior Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.), junior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.), junior Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia), junior Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.), freshman Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) and sophomore Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia).
Maxwell is competing in the long jump and will be the first Villanova athlete to get underway during the East Regional. The first round of the long jump begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Later that evening the trio of Denault, McEntee and Williamsz will run in the national first round of the 1500 meters, while Ellison and Solis will compete in the first round of the 800 meters.
The middle distance runners will be trying to advance to the national quarterfinals of the 800 meters and the 1500 meters, respectively. The quarterfinal heats of the 800 meters take place on Friday night, while the 1500 meters quarterfinals will be run on Saturday evening. The last event for the Wildcats will be the national semifinals of the 5000 meters on Saturday night.
