Villanova Prepared for 2010 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

The Villanova men's track and field squad is set for the 2010 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at Gettler Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Events begin on Friday, April 30, but the Wildcats will not begin competition until Saturday, May 1 with the trials of the 1,500m run at 1:45 p.m.
Villanova has athletes qualified to compete in 14 different events over the weekend.
In the 400m dash, Bowers, junior Chris Kearney and senior Garret Kroner have all earned qualifying marks. The 400m dash trials are scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Villanova has 10 athletes qualified to compete in the 1,500m run. Junior Carl Mackenzie and sophomore Mathew Mildenhall rank in the top-10 in the conference with Mackenzie holding the fifth best time and Mildenhall eighth.
In the 5,000m run, the Wildcats have earned five qualifiers with junior Brian Long 11th in the conference rankings.
Junior Stefan Goodridge and freshman Nicoy Hines have had strong season's running the 400m hurdles where they are ranked fifth and ninth, respectively. The trials are scheduled for 4:25 p.m. on Saturday.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, junior Daniel Lewis will look to score again this year for the Wildcats. He holds the second-fastest time in the conference. Also competing in the event for the first time at the BIG EAST Championships is junior Hugo Beamish who ranks 12th.
The Wildcats will have relay squads in the 4x400m and 4x800m where a finals-only event is on Sunday, May 2.
In field events, freshman Curran Darling will look to score in the high jump beginning at 4:30 on Saturday. He ranks ninth in the conference standings.
Junior Robert Sainvil is set for the triple jump on Sunday where he has the 13th best mark in the BIG EAST.
Sophomore Frank Anuszewski will kick events off for Villanova on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. competing in the discus throw.
