Villanova Set to Compete at Penn Relays

The Villanova track and field squads look to continue their historical success at the Penn Relays, beginning on Thursday, April 24 in the 114th year of the event.

Villanova has won 28 relay victories in program history. The most recent came in 2006 when the distance medley relay team captured the 10th DMR crown. Seniors Akilah Vargas and Frances Koons were members of that team.

The Wildcat men have 89 relay victories under their belt. In 2001 Villanova claimed the DMR and 4xMile titles.

The Penn Relays begin with freshman Kristen Mahon competing in the 400m hurdles championship at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Freshmen Colleen Knill & Ashlyn Llerandi will be competing in the pole vault, while freshman Audrey Gariepy-Bogui will compete in the high jump, also at 10:00 a.m.

At 5:15, the college women DMR Championship of America gets underway, followed by the heats for the 4x400m relay.

Thursday night beginning at 9:10 p.m. the college men 5000m championships will take place with freshman Keith Capecci and senior Geoffrey Doody running in the event.

Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. the Wildcats are back on the track with senior Patrick Gazzini and junior Elliot Whaley running in the 400m hurdles championship.

 

 

At 1:25 the college women's 4x1500m relay will take place, followed by senior Kevin Okolie competing in the men's 100m heats at 3:25 p.m.

Gariepy-Bogui will race in the 100m hurdles heats at 3:55 p.m., and the men's 4x400m heats will get underway at 4:25 p.m.

Marco Radocaj will compete in the javelin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

The college men 4x800 Championship of America will be underway at 4:50 p.m., followed by the 4x400 women's ECAC finals at 5:55.
