Elbert Maxwell Named BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week
April 10, 2014
NEW YORK - Junior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named the BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week by the league office earlier this week after a pair of notable performances at the Colonial Relays last weekend. Maxwell won the Championship section of the long jump and was the runner-up in the Championship section of the high jump to headline the Villanova results over two days at Zable Stadium.
In the long jump Maxwell registered a mark of 7.46 meters to tie his personal best. He had originally set that mark just a few weeks earlier at the indoor BIG EAST Championships, where he became the first Wildcats athlete ever to be a conference champion in the long jump.
Maxwell also came extremely close to matching a career best performance in the high jump. He cleared the bar at 2.09 meters to establish his best mark of the year (indoors or outdoors), while nearly matching his lifetime best height of 2.10 meters.
Villanova is back in action this weekend and will send athletes to both the Delaware Open and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
