VILLANOVA, Pa.--Teams from 16 different conference around the country, including seven nationally-ranked squads, are part of the field at the Iowa State Classic this weekend at the Lied Recreation Center. Villanova will run in the men's distance medley relay on Friday night and is also entered in four individual events during the meet. The distance medley relay will be contested at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time on Friday night. Entering the race the Wildcats are ranked seventh in the nation in the DMR. Villanova posted a time of 9:36.89 at the Penn State National last month with a lineup that included sophomore Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia), freshman Ayomide Obadare (Elmont, N.Y.), senior Chris FitzSimons (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.).
Among the 13 accepted entries in the DMR at Iowa State are BIG EAST squads Butler and Georgetown, with the Hoyas coming into the meet ranked 12th in the nation and second in the conference behind the Wildcats. The remainder of the field includes Air Force, Drake, Florida, a second entry from Georgetown, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, South Dakota and Virginia.
Most individual events will be contested on Saturday morning and early afternoon. Williamsz and Denault are among the accepted entries from Villanova and both will run in the Mile. Freshman Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) is entered in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters, while a group of Villanova runners are scheduled for the 800 meters.
