VILLANOVA, Pa. - Former Villanova track star Bobby Curtis was named the 2008 Eastern Track Athlete of the Year. Curtis graduated from Villanova in 2008.
In his senior year at Villanova, Curtis finished fourth at the 2007 Cross Country National Championships. He was also fourth in the 3,000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships and claimed the 2008 NCAA title in the 5,000m Outdoor Championships. Curtis was also the no. 2 Eastern performer in the 1,500m with a time of 3:40.25. His is the first Wildcat to garner Athlete of the Year honor since 1998.
"It's an honor to be named the Eastern Track Athlete of the Year," said Curtis. "Last year was a dream season for me so any awards I receive after the fact are icing on the cake. It's an award not only for me, but for the track and field coaching staff, who have done an exceptional job helping me grow as a student-athlete."
Curtis finished sixth in the 5,000m at the United States Olympic Trials over the summer.
