BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--In the quarterfinals of the 400 meter hurdles on Friday evening sophomore Nicoy Hines (Paterson, N.J.) crossed the finish line in 52.36 and came in seventh in his heat. Hines was the only Villanova athlete in competition on Friday at the NCAA East Regional which is being held this weekend at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex on the Indiana University campus.

Hines ran in the first of three quarterfinal heats and from a difficult spot in lane 8 he came around the opening curve and looked strong on the first straightaway before the eventual leaders in the heat emerged coming out of the second curve.

Competition at the NCAA East Regional concludes on Saturday night and the Wildcats will have five athletes in competition tomorrow. The quarterfinals of the 1500 meters begin at 6:45 p.m. and seniors Matthew Gibney (Albury, Australia) and Brian Tetreault (Cinnaminson, N.J.) will each be running in the first heat.

Later in the evening the national semifinals of the 5000 meters go off at 8:45 p.m. Senior Brian Long (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Mathew Mildenhall (Auckland, New Zealand) both run in the first heat, while senior Hugo Beamish (Havelock North, New Zealand) runs in the second heat.
