Maxwell and Mildenhall Finish Strong at IC4A Championship

PRINCETON, N.J.--Villanova had three athletes in competition at the IC4A Championship and registered a pair of top-eight finishes in the meet, held from Friday through Sunday at Weaver Stadium on the Princeton campus. Senior middle distance runner Mathew Mildenhall (Auckland, New Zealand) came in eighth in the finals of the 1500 meters and freshman jumper Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tied for sixth place in the high jump.
Mildenhall ran in the preliminaries of the 1500 meters on Saturday and registered a time of 3:50.24 to rank 12th out of 31 runners in the field. He advanced on time to the finals on Sunday and wound up with an eighth place finish after running a time of 3:53.62 in the finals. Senior Joseph LoRusso (Oak Hill, Va.) finished in 23rd place in the preliminaries of the 1500 meters with a time of 3:55.46.
In the jumps Maxwell cleared a height of 2.07 meters in the high jump and recorded a leap of 7.28 meters in the long jump. He tied for sixth place out of 15 competitors in the high jump and finished 11th out of 34 athletes in the long jump.
Maxwell registered his second-best marks of the outdoor season in both the high jump and the long jump at the IC4A meet. He is currently ranked 47th in the East Region in the high jump with a top mark of 2.10 meters and has a chance at qualifying for the NCAA East Regional; declarations for the regional meet will be announced later this week.
