TAMPA, Fla. - A terrific season for sophomore Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) got even better when he won the individual title in the 800 meters at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday afternoon. Ellison and fellow sophomore Chris Fitzsimons (Hamden, Conn.) came in first and second within a quarter second of each other and helped lead Villanova to a sixth place finish in the team standings. During the final day of competition at the USF Track & Field Stadium the Wildcats earned points in four different events.

Ellison is the second Villanova runner in the last four years to win the 800 meters at the outdoor conference meet and he did so with a time of 1:50.99 to earn his first individual BIG EAST title. Fitzimons was the runner-up in 1:51.24 and fifth-year senior Brian Tetreault (Cinnaminson, N.J.) had a great race for the second straight day en route to a fifth place finish in a time of 1:51.69.

Two athletes scored points for the Wildcats in the 1500 meters, as freshman Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) and junior Alex Tully (Little Rock, Ark.) came in fourth and sixth, respectively. Denault crossed the finish line in 3:51.75 and Tully had a time of 3:53.51.

Denault later ran the third leg of the 4x800 meter relay as Villanova closed out the weekend with a fourth place finish in the relay. Junior Joseph Capecci (New Hope, Pa.) and redshirt freshman Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ran the first two legs of the relay and freshman Samuel McEntee (Perth, Australia) was the anchor one day after he won the individual 5000 meters last night. The time for the Wildcats in the relay was 7:32.14.

Junior sprinter Nicoy Hines (Paterson, N.J.) ran a personal best time of 51.62 in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles and earned a fourth place finish. Hines just did eclipse his previous top time of 51.64, which came at the BIG EAST Championships at Villanova Stadium last season.

As a team Villanova accumulated 75.5 points to post a sixth place finish out of the 13 competing teams.
