Kane Wins 5000 Meters at Widener Invitational
Matt Kane finished first in the 5000 meters at the Widener Invitational on Friday night.

CHESTER, Pa. - Senior Matt Kane (Fairfield, Conn.) came in first in the 5000 meters and led a trio of Villanova runners that finished in the top eight of the event as the Wildcats competed in two events on the first night of the Widener Invitational at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium on Friday night. Villanova had athletes in the 5000 meters and the shot put on Friday night.

Kane crossed the finish line in 14:35.91 to lead a field of 60 runners. Sophomore Tom Trainer (Havertown, Pa.) came in third with a time of 14:47.31 and senior John Pickhaver (Drexel Hill, Pa.) crossed the finish line in 15:17.96 to finish eighth. The top four runners to finish were either from the Wildcats or Navy, and Kane recorded a margin of victory of just over eight seconds.

Freshman thrower James Rowen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) competed in the shot put and finished fifth in a field of 25 athletes. He threw for a distance of 13.86 meters.

NOTES: Villanova freshman Harry Warnick (Fairfield, Conn.) competed as an unattached runner in the 1500 meters and placed sixth with a time of 14:57.49.
