Wildcats Win Distance Medley Relay at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - On the second and final day of competition at the Colonial Relays on Saturday afternoon Villanova registered a 1-2 finish in the distance medley relay. The top two relay teams from the Wildcats finished within one second of each other and at the top of the field of 16 relay teams. Villanova also earned a fifth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay at Zable Stadium on Saturday.
The winning time for the Wildcats in the distance medley relay was 9:56.02, while the team's second relay unit registered a time of 9:56.03. Villanova won the race by more than a second over Virginia Tech and the rest of the 16-team field. Only the top four teams broke 10 minutes in the race.
In the 4x400 meter relay the Wildcats came in fifth out of 20 teams with a time of 3:17.58.
Also in action on Saturday was junior Chris Dougherty (Cherry Hill, N.J.), who tied for 10th place out of 29 competitors in the pole vault. He matched his career best height of 4.50 meters in the pole vault.
Villanova earned 26 team points in two days of competition at the Colonial Relays.
Members of the Wildcats will compete next weekend in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami.
