Wildcats Competed at Danny Curran Invitation During Weekend

CHESTER, Pa. - Two days of competition at the Danny Curran Invitational were highlighted by strong performances in both the running events and the field events for Villanova at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium this weekend. Members of the Wildcats competed in three running events and six field events during the local meet.
Senior Joseph LoRusso (Oak Hill, Va.) led a large group of Villanova athletes in the 1500 meters with a second place finish. The contingent of Wildcats competing in the event accounted for five of the top 10 finishers and 10 of the first 20 runners across the finish line. LoRusso was the runner-up in the field of 117 entries with a time of 3:56.37, while sophomores Dan Harris (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Brian Basili (South Orange, N.J.) came in fifth (3:58.99) and sixth (3:59.00), respectively, with nearly identical times.
Rounding out the list of Villanova runners that finished in the top 10 overall were junior Greg Morrin (Hockessin, Del.) with an eighth place finish (3:59.48) and junior Daniel Norman (Lexington, Ky.) with a 10th place showing (3:59.98).
Four different Wildcats competed in the 800 meters, in which senior Joseph Capecci (New Hope, Pa.) and sophomore Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) registered second and third place finishes. Capecci was second across the finish line from a field of 109 runners with a time of 1:54.83 and Solis came in third with a time of 1:55.47. Junior Philip O'Connell (Rye, N.Y.) finished eighth and crossed the finish line in 1:57.35.
Freshman Cory Serfoss (Easton, Pa.) led three Villanova runners in the 400 meters with a time of 51.09 and he finished in seventh place out of 70 competitors.
In the field events freshman Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a victory in the long jump with a distance of 6.66 meters. Junior Lazaro Tiant (Roselle, N.J.) came in third (6.37m) in the event and senior George Bodziock (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) finished 13th in the triple jump (11.94m).
Senior thrower Frank Anuszewski (Pottstown, Pa.) led the Wildcats in the throws, registering a second place finish in the hammer (55.93m) and an eighth place showing in the discus (43.66m). Sophomore Drew King (New Haven, Conn.) was the only other thrower to place in both the discus and the hammer. He recorded distances of 35.51 meters (discus) and 36.29 meters (hammer), respectively.
Next up for Villanova are two meets during the coming weekend (April 6-7). Members of the Wildcats will compete at both the Sam Howell Invitational (Princeton) and the Colonial Relays (William & Mary).
