PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova began the outdoor track & field season by competing in nine different events at the Philadelphia College Classic, which featured several local teams at Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon. The highlights of the day for the Wildcats came from victories in the 400 meter hurdles by freshman Joseph Messick (Montgomery, N.J.) and the long jump by senior Lazaro Tiant (Roselle, N.J.).
Messick paced a field of five runners in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.72. In the long jump Tiant registered a distance of 6.49 meters and was first out of three competitors. In all Villanova competed in four running events and five field events during the meet.
Next up for the Wildcats is the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener next Saturday.
