PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomore sprinter Aaron Sandifer (Harrisburg, N.C.) won the 110 meter hurdles and three Villanova athletes registered personal bests in their respective events as the Wildcats opened the outdoor season at the Philadelphia College Classic on Saturday afternoon. Villanova competed in seven events at Franklin Field against other local teams in the non-scored meet.

Sandifer crossed the finish line in 16.19 in the 110 meter hurdles and freshman PJ Succi (Warminster, Pa.) finished in fourth place with a time of 17.36 in the event. It was a busy day for both athletes, as Sandifer also placed ninth in the 200 meters (23.31) and Succi finished 16th in the shot put with a distance of 8.78 meters.

Freshman sprinter Vince Thompson (Pipersville, Pa.) registered a personal best in the 200 meters and tied for fourth place in 22.72. Fellow first year runner Peter Winslow (Stratham, N.H.) ran in the 400 meter hurdles and came in third with a time of 1:00.36.

In the hammer senior Drew King (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore James Rowen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each registered new personal best marks. King came in second out of 10 competitors with a distance of 48.75 meters and Rowen placed fourth in 44.44 meters. Freshman John McDonald (New Providence, N.J.) finished eighth and recorded a mark of 38.40 meters in his career debut in the hammer.

Rowen also competed in the shot put and came in ninth with a throw of 12.70 meters. Freshman Dan Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) placed eighth (13.00m) and sophomore Robert Cacace (Yonkers, N.Y.) was 15th (11.46m). Cacace also came in seventh in the long jump with a jump of 5.49 meters.

 

 

In the high jump juniors Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Matthew Sidney (Canton, Mass.) came in second (2.00m) and third (1.95), respectively.

Villanova returns to action next weekend for both the Danny Curran Invitational and the Raleigh Relays.
