HAVERFORD, Pa.--Redshirt freshman Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led a group of four Villanova athletes that competed in the Mile at the Seamus McGelligott Invitational at Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon. The group of Wildcats included all first-year performers for the team.
Solis came in first place in a field of 45 competitors in the Mile with a time of 4:16.81. It was his first race in the event this season and his time qualifies him for the BIG EAST Championships later this month. This is the first postseason qualifying time for Solis, who has also run the 1000 meters four times this indoor season.
Freshman Charlie Bates (Hoboken, N.J.) came in 10th in the Mile with a time of 4:30.52.
The other two Villanova athletes that ran the Mile were competing as unattached runners. Freshman Tom Trainer (Havertown, Pa.) finished as the runner-up to Solis with a time of 4:19.36 and classmate Robert Hurlbut (Rochester, N.Y.) placed fourth in 4:24.77.
