NEW YORK, N.Y.--The men's track and field team began the 2005 portion of its schedule in successful fashion on Friday, as Villanova won six events and had 14 individuals qualify for next month's BIG EAST Championship while competing at the NYU Invitational. The meet was held at the New Balance Track & Field Center in Manhattan.

Freshman Richard Corcoran (Dubline, Ireland) crossed third with a time of 4:12.32, while the sophomore trio of Marc Pelerin (Marlton, N.J.), Michael Kerrigan (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Mark Korich (Wyndmoor, Pa.) placed fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively.

Junior Carl Hansen (Glen Mills, Pa.) placed fourth out of 65 in the 200 meter dash, and qualified for the conference meet with a time of 22.37.

Sophomore Robert McDade (Broomall, Pa.) earned a conference bid in the shot put, as his toss of 15.98m (52'5 ¼") led the field of 31 and also established a new personal best. Junior David Wilkes (Latham, N.Y.) qualified after finishing first of 22 in the pole vault. His winning leap was 4.50m (14'9").

Villanova also had a first-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay. The Wildcats' time of 7:48.81 paced the field of 15 teams.
