PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Senior Drew King (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore James Rowen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each set personal bests in the weight throw at the Rutgers Invite on Friday night. Villanova had four throwers competing in the meet held at the Busch Bubble on the Scarlet Knights campus.
King threw for a distance of 14.86 meters and finished third out of 10 athletes in the weight throw, while Rowen placed fifth in the event with a distance of 13.72 meters. Those marks represented the second consecutive meet to begin the year that King and Rowen have established new personal bests in the weight throw. Their previous marks were 14.67 meters and 13.50 meters, respectively, at the Jack Pyrah Invitational last month.
Freshmen John McDonald (New Providence, N.J.) and Dan Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) also competed in the weight throw. McDonald came in ninth with a throw of 10.30 meters and Sullivan finished 10th with a distance of 9.45 meters.
Rowen and Sullivan also competed in the shot put and placed fifth (12.71m) and sixth (12.68m), respectively.
