Villanova Places Third in Championship of America 4x800 Meter Relay
The final race of an incredible weekend was another exciting one and Villanova closed its stay at the Penn Relays with a third place finish in the Championship of America 4x800 meter relay at Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon. The race came down to the final 25 meters and the Wildcats finished with a time of 7:19.35, just a half second off the winning pace.
Elbert Maxwell Wins Long Jump Championship at Penn Relays
On his last jump of the day, senior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the Championship section of the long jump at the Penn Relays. Maxwell got off to a good start but did not secure the win until his final attempt. His winning mark of 7.62 meters represents the second-longest jump of his career.
Wildcats Place Second in Close Finish to Distance Medley Relay at Penn Relays
In the final lap of the Championship of America distance medley relay, Villanova and Oregon pulled away from the rest of the field in a thrilling head-to-head finish. Junior Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) ran the fastest anchor leg of any team in the race and the Wildcats finished second in the relay with a time of 9:34.36. Williamsz produced a split of 3:58.94 for the final 1600 meters of the relay and Villanova came in just a half-second behind Oregon.

An entire year's worth of preparation precedes three action-packed days of competition at the Penn Relays, which will be run for the 121st time this week at Franklin Field. The tradition of the historic Relays are woven into every part of the storied Villanova track & field program, and the Wildcats are looking forward to adding a new chapter to their history at the Relays this year.
Villanova's 1965 Two-Mile Relay Squad to be Inducted to Penn Relays Wall of Fame
One of the top relay teams in the long and storied history of the Villanova track & field program will be honored this weekend with induction to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame. At the 121st running of the Penn Relays, the 1965 two-mile relay squad will be inducted to the Wall of Fame on the 50th anniversary of their record-setting win.
Wildcats Finish Strong at Larry Ellis Invitational
A group of 11 athletes wrapped up competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The highlights of the action at Weaver Stadium included personal best times in the 100 meters for senior Cory Serfoss (Easton, Pa.) and sophomore Peter Winslow (Stratham, N.H.). Also recording personal top times for the Wildcats were freshman Zach Swenson (Boulder, Colo.) in the 800 meters and redshirt freshman Drake Johnston (Santa Monica, Calif.) in the 1500 meters.
Williamsz Runs Second-Fastest Time In Nation in 1500 Meters
Junior middle distance runner Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) and senior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) each ran the equivalents of sub-four minute miles in the 1500 meters during competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. They posted times that rank second and sixth in the nation, respectively, so far this season in their races at Weaver Stadium as Villanova opened two days of competition at the meet. There were a total of 14 athletes competing for the Wildcats in three running and two throwing events on Friday night.
Lampron Leads Wildcats Sweep in 800 Meters at Hurricane Alumni Invitational
With sophomore middle distance runner Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) leading the charge, Villanova swept the top three spots in the 800 meters during competition at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational at Cobb Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Lampron, redshirt freshman Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) and freshman Ishmael Muhammad (Mays Landing, N.J.) were the top three finishers out of 24 competitors in the 800 meters.
