Villanova's 1965 Two-Mile Relay Squad to be Inducted to Penn Relays Wall of Fame
One of the top relay teams in the long and storied history of the Villanova track & field program will be honored this weekend with induction to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame. At the 121st running of the Penn Relays, the 1965 two-mile relay squad will be inducted to the Wall of Fame on the 50th anniversary of their record-setting win.
Wildcats Finish Strong at Larry Ellis Invitational
A group of 11 athletes wrapped up competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The highlights of the action at Weaver Stadium included personal best times in the 100 meters for senior Cory Serfoss (Easton, Pa.) and sophomore Peter Winslow (Stratham, N.H.). Also recording personal top times for the Wildcats were freshman Zach Swenson (Boulder, Colo.) in the 800 meters and redshirt freshman Drake Johnston (Santa Monica, Calif.) in the 1500 meters.
Williamsz Runs Second-Fastest Time In Nation in 1500 Meters
Junior middle distance runner Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) and senior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) each ran the equivalents of sub-four minute miles in the 1500 meters during competition at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night. They posted times that rank second and sixth in the nation, respectively, so far this season in their races at Weaver Stadium as Villanova opened two days of competition at the meet. There were a total of 14 athletes competing for the Wildcats in three running and two throwing events on Friday night.
Lampron Leads Wildcats Sweep in 800 Meters at Hurricane Alumni Invitational
With sophomore middle distance runner Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) leading the charge, Villanova swept the top three spots in the 800 meters during competition at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational at Cobb Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Lampron, redshirt freshman Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) and freshman Ishmael Muhammad (Mays Landing, N.J.) were the top three finishers out of 24 competitors in the 800 meters.
Wildcats Win Six Events at Delaware Open
A group of 16 athletes competed for Villanova in four running events and five field events during the Delaware Open at Grant Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The local meet produced six first place finishes by the Wildcats, who also had two athletes establish personal best marks during the day.
Wildcats Win Distance Medley Relay, Finish Second in 4x800 at Colonial Relays
On the second of two days of competition at the Colonial Relays, a first place finish in the distance medley relay and a runner-up showing in the 4x800 relay were the top Villanova results at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon. In addition to the two relays, the Wildcats competed in three field events and wound up with a fifth place finish in the team standings at the meet.
Elbert Maxwell Sixth in the Nation in the Long Jump after Reaching 7.64 Meters
No matter how you quantify the performance by senior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the long jump on Friday afternoon, his leap of 7.64 meters at the Colonial Relays is a career best effort under any criterion. Maxwell headlined a successful day for Villanova at Zable Stadium on Friday afternoon as the team began a busy two days of competition.
Josh Lampron Wins 1500 Meters at Danny Curran Invitational
In frigid conditions at the Danny Curran Invitational on Saturday afternoon, Villanova had athletes competing in a total of five events at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium. Two days of competition at the local meet concluded with Saturday's events, including three running events and two field events that the Wildcats entered.
