Men's Track & Field Headed to BIG EAST Championships at Spire Institute
This weekend's BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin on Friday morning and Villanova will be looking to win its third straight team title at the conference meet, which is being held at the Spire Institute for the first time outdoors. The site, located in Geneva, Ohio, previously hosted the indoor BIG EAST meet in 2013.
Villanova Alum Sam McEntee Qualifies For 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio
Countrymen and former Villanova track & field teammates Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia) and Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) ran in the same section of the 5000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday night at Stanford, where McEntee registered a qualifying time for the upcoming Summer Olympics and Tiernan came within less than a second of the Olympics standard. McEntee is a 2015 graduate from Villanova, while Tiernan is a senior on the current roster whose personal best time on Sunday night puts him second on this season’s NCAA performance list.
Wildcats Place Fifth in Championship of America 4xMile Relay
Both the past and present success of the Villanova track & field program was on display Saturday afternoon as the 122nd running of the Penn Relays came to a close. The current team came in fifth in the Championship of America 4xMile relay in a race that was run in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Wildcats champion 2-mile relay team from 1966. That team was inducted to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame on the back turn of the Franklin Field track just prior to the 4xMile relay.
Third Place Finish in Sprint Medley Relay Highlights Friday Action for Villanova Men
In the team's first Championship of America race in the sprint medley relay in nearly 30 years, Villanova came in third with a time of 3:24.31 at the Penn Relays on Friday night. The sprint medley race closed a successful day for the Wildcats, who also registered a fifth place finish in the Championship of America section in the distance medley relay.

It is Penn Relays week at long last, and the 122nd running of the world's most historic track meet will add another chapter to Villanova's long-standing tradition at Franklin Field. One of the many things to look forward to this year is the induction of the Wildcats 1966 distance medley relay team to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame on the 50th anniversary of their historic win.
1966 DMR Team Earns Penn Relays Wall of Fame Induction
During the 122nd running of the Penn Relays this week, Villanova will add another relay team to the Wall of Fame when the 1966 distance medley relay team is inducted on the 50th anniversary of its historic win. A team that consisted of Alan McCafferty, Bill Heidelberger, Ian Hamilton and Dave Patrick won the DMR with a then-record time of 9:46.4 on the old cinder track at Franklin Field. They will become the Wildcats 10th relay to be inducted to the Wall of Fame.
Harry Warnick Races in Championship Section of 5000 Meters at Penn Relays
Junior distance runner Harry Warnick (Fairfield, Conn.) closed out the first day of competition at the Penn Relays by running in the Championship section of the 5000 meters at Franklin Field on Thursday night. Warnick recorded a time of 14:33.56 and came in 10th in his section in a race that was not run until after 10 p.m.
Purcell Tallies Personal Best Time in 400 Meters at Larry Ellis Invitational
Freshman sprinter Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) finished third out of 42 runners in the 400 meters to highlight competition for Villanova at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Two days of competition wrapped up at Weaver Stadium with the Wildcats competing in six different events.
