Wildcats Returned to Action at Gotham Cup on Friday Night
More than a dozen athletes were in competition for Villanova at the Gotham Cup, as the team returned to action at New York Armory on Friday night. The team registered a number of strong performances across the board in the first full meet of the new year.
Maxwell and Deutmeyer Open New Year at Akron Pole Vault Convention
Senior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman James Deutmeyer (Rye, N.Y.) each competed during the Akron Pole Vault Convention at Stile Athletics Field House on Friday night. The field events contested on the first night of the meet were by invitation only and the two Villanova athletes competed in the long jump and the pole vault, respectively.
Former Villanova All-American Tom Donnelly Inducted into USTFCCCA Hall of Fame
The highlight on the first day of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Convention will be the inductions of the 2014 class into the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame. The inductions take place on Monday evening at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix and one of the six inductees will be former Villanova standout Tom Donnelly, who has been the men's cross country and track & field head coach at Haverford for the past 40 years. Donnelly will be introduced by Wildcats head coach Marcus O'Sullivan, who was coached by Donnelly during his professional racing career.
Lampron and Maxwell Win Events at Jack Pyrah Invitational
Sophomore Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won their respective events and Villanova opened the season in successful fashion at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday afternoon. This is the 12th consecutive year that the Wildcats have hosted the local meet at Alumni Gym on the Haverford campus. The meet is named in memory of the longtime Villanova assistant coach.
Indoor Track Opens Season at Jack Pyrah Invitational Saturday
The indoor track & field season will officially get underway this weekend when Villanova hosts the annual Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday, December 6th. 10 local teams will be in competition at the meet which is set to take place at Alumni Field House on the Haverford College campus.

Men's Track & Field Has Five Athletes Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
Five student-athletes from Villanova have been named to the national All-Academic Team announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The trio of senior Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) and juniors Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) and Sam McEntee (Perth, Australia) each earned their third straight selection to the All-Academic Team, while graduate student Mile Palmisano (Dresher, Pa.) and freshman Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) earned the honor for the first time.
