Marcus O'Sullivan Named Mid-Atlantic Region Head Coach of the Year
Villanova head coach Marcus O'Sullivan was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Head Coach of the Year for the outdoor track & field season on Monday afternoon. The announcement of regional awards for student-athletes and coaches was made by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in advance of the NCAA Championships later this week.
Trio of Wildcats Qualify for NCAA Championships on Saturday Night
On the final night of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary, a trio of Villanova runners advanced through to the NCAA Championships next month. Senior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) and junior Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) each qualified for the national meet in the 1500 meters, while junior Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) advanced in the 5000 meters during competition at Hodges Stadium on Saturday night.
Ben Malone Finishes Seventh in Quarterfinal Heat of 800 Meters at East Preliminary
Redshirt freshman Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) competed in the quarterfinal heats of the 800 meters at the NCAA East Preliminary and recorded a time of 1:49.28 at Hodges Stadium on Friday night. He was the lone Villanova athlete competing on the second day of competition at the meet. Four athletes remain for the Wildcats and they will run on Saturday night when the meet concludes.
Men's Track & Field Qualifies Four for Quarterfinals on First Night at East Preliminary
Senior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) and sophomore Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) won their respective heats in the first round of the 1500 meters and Villanova advanced a total of three athletes to the quarterfinal round during competition at the NCAA East Preliminary on Thursday evening. Junior Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia) was second to Lampron in the first heat of the 1500 meters and is the third Wildcats qualifier.

Two athletes were in competition for Villanova on the first full day of the IC4A Championship at Weaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Senior Cory Serfoss (Easton, Pa.) and freshman Elliot Slade (Cardiff, United Kingdom) ran in the preliminary heats of the 400 meter hurdles and the 800 meters, respectively.

The remarkable run of success that the men's track & field team has been on for the past two years continued in full force on Saturday afternoon, as Villanova wrapped up its second straight outdoor BIG EAST title with a dominant all-around performance at the conference meet. This is the seventh time that the Wildcats have been outdoor BIG EAST champions, and the victory wraps up the program's second straight "Triple Crown" performance. Villanova also won the team titles in cross country and indoor track & field during the 2014-15 academic year to match its achievement from last year.
