Villanova opened the 2013-14 indoor track & field season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on December 7.
On McDonald: Gained a great deal of experience in the throwing events as a freshman ... His top events were the weight throw indoors and the hammer outdoors ... Has room to continue developing and will help the team during meets ... Capable of being a BIG EAST scorer as he continues to make progress.
2014 Outdoor: Competed in the hammer at the BIG EAST Championships and registered a 10th place finish with a throw of 37.33 meters ... Established a personal best in the event with a mark of 39.17 meters at the Delaware Classic, where he finished in fourth place ... Also threw the discus at that meet and placed eighth with a distance of 33.92 meters ... Debuted in the hammer at the Philadelphia College Classic and came in eighth (38.40m) ... Finished third at the Delaware Open (38.02m), placed 13th at the Danny Curran Invitational (34.58m) and was 14th at the Colonial Relays (33.56m).
2014 Indoor: Competed three times in the weight throw and had a top mark of 13.20 meters ... That came at the BIG EAST Championships, where he registered a ninth place finish ... Came in ninth in the weight throw at the Rutgers Invite (10.30m) and was 11th at the season-opening Jack Pyrah Invitational (11.23m).
New Providence High School: Came in 15th at the NJSIAA Group 1 championships in the discus with a throw of 36.17 meters ... Received his school's Entrepreneur Scholarship.
Personal: Born 1/24/95 ... One of three children of Kenneth and Megan McDonald ... Both parents are 1985 graduates of Villanova ... Has a brother, Sam, and a sister, Devon ... Enrolled in the Villanova School of Business and has yet to declare a major.
