Ville Lampinen Wins 800 Meters at Hurricane Alumni Invitational
It was a successful day for the Villanova sprinters on Saturday afternoon, as sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) won the 800 meters at the Hurricane Invitational to highlight a number of strong results for the Wildcats. Lampinen paced a field of two dozen runners in the 800 meters at Cobb Stadium. Villanova also tallied an eighth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay and a pair of top-eight finishes in the pole vault.
Ben Malone Places Fifth in 1500 Meters at Sam Howell Invitational
Junior middle distance runner Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) came in fifth out of 36 runners in the 1500 meters to lead Villanova during the second day of the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet at Weaver Stadium on the Princeton campus wrapped up with the Wildcats tallying a total of four top-eight finishes for the day.
Wildcats Begin Busy Weekend at Sam Howell Invitational
Six athletes were in competition for Villanova at the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday night, as the Wildcats kicked off a busy weekend of competition. Three races were on the schedule for the team at Weaver Stadium, with Villanova running in the 800 meters, the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters.
O’Mara, Wetzel, Marston and Malone Win 4x1500 at Colonial Relays
A winning lineup that consisted of sophomore Colin O’Mara (Little Rock, Ark.), redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.), redshirt freshman Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.) and junior Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) won the 4x1500 meter relay with a terrific race at the 52nd annual Berkeley Realty Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Villanova’s winning relay team held off meet host William & Mary by nearly four seconds at the finish line.
Cartwright and Pierce Run Well for Wildcats at Colonial Relays
Senior sprinter Kyle Cartwright (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and sophomore Sterling Pierce (Voorhees, N.J.) were among the top performers for Villanova during a full day of action Friday at the 52nd annual Berkeley Realty Colonial Relays. The pair each recorded strong times in their respective events and the Wildcats had athletes entered into seven different events in all on a wet and cool day at Zable Stadium.
Young Villanova Team Got its Start at Penn Challenge on Saturday
Villanova opened its outdoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Penn Challenge, where the team had athletes competing in 13 different events at Franklin Field. The Wildcats tallied a trio of third place finishes on the day.
Men’s Track & Field DMR Squad Earns First Team All-America Honors
Following their eighth place finish at the NCAA Championships last week, the Wildcats distance medley relay squad was named first team All-Americans by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday afternoon. Villanova had a lineup of junior Elliot Slade (Cardiff, United Kingdom), sophomore Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland), sophomore Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) and redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) in the national championship race.
Wildcats Finish Eighth in Men’s DMR at NCAA Championships
Redshirt freshman Logan Wetzel (Saline, Mich.) ran a strong anchor leg to help Villanova clinch a top-eight finish in the national championship race of the distance medley relay on Friday night. A lineup of junior Elliot Slade (Cardiff, United Kingdom), sophomores Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) and Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland), and Wetzel registered a time of 9:39.38 and came in eighth out of 12 teams at Gilliam Indoor Stadium on the first night of the NCAA Championships.
