Villanova Open to Stream Live on Flotrack Friday Afternoon
The second home meet of the indoor track & field season takes place on Friday afternoon when more than a dozen schools converge on the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex for the Villanova Open. The meet gets underway at 12 p.m. and is expected to wrap up by approximately 6 p.m.
Wildcats Sweep Top Three Spots in 3000 Meters at Gotham Cup
The trio of senior Ben Malone (River Vale, N.J.) and redshirt freshmen Andrew Marston (Wayne, Pa.) and Casey Comber (Maple Glen, Pa.) swept the top three spots in the 3000 meters to highlight several strong performances by Villanova at the Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon. The meet was the first of five straight for the Wildcats at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex.
Lampinen and Purcell Open Up Strong at Nittany Lion Challenge
Sophomore sprinters Ville Lampinen (Vantaa, Finland) and Harry Purcell (Dublin, Ireland) were among several Villanova athletes who opened up the new calendar year on a strong note at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The pair each competed in the 600 meters and finished in the top four in a field of 20 runners. Overall, the Wildcats had 14 athletes competing in 10 individual events and a relay during the meet at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Villanova Track & Field Great Frank Murphy Passes Away
One of the legendary names in Villanova track & field history passed away on Thursday afternoon in his native Ireland. Frank Murphy, 69, died following a long illness. He was a noteworthy member of the “Irish Pipeline” of Wildcats track & field athletes, and was a three-time NCAA champion and a two-time Olympian during his career.
Kolby Koeck Named BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Villanova senior Kolby Koeck (Altoona, Pa.) was named the BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the conference on Wednesday morning. Koeck made his season debut in the pole vault at the Fast Times Before Finals Meet at Lehigh last weekend.
Wildcats Wrap Up Competition at Fast Times Before Finals Meet
A group of four Villanova athletes wrapped up competition at the Fast Times Before Finals Meet on Saturday afternoon. Senior Peter Winslow (Stratham, N.H.) and sophomore Michael Morrow (Danbury, Conn.) finished strong in the heptathlon at Rauch Field House on the Lehigh campus, while senior Kolby Koeck (Altoona, Pa.) and freshman Thomas Conboy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) competed in the pole vault.
Morrow and Winslow Begin Heptathlon Competition on Friday Evening
Sophomore Michael Morrow (Danbury, Conn.) and senior Peter Winslow (Stratham, N.H.) completed the first four events of the heptathlon at the Fast Times Before Finals Meet at Lehigh on Friday evening. The two-day meet at Rauch Field House got underway with the multi-events, while the majority of the meet will take place starting on Saturday morning. With three events left in the heptathlon, Morrow and Winslow rank seventh and ninth, respectively, out of the 14 athletes taking part in the competition.
Men's Track & Field Starts Strong at Jack Pyrah Invitational
Sophomore thrower Henry Sise (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) finished first in the shot put and Villanova registered a total of nine top-three finishes at the Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The first meet of the 2016-17 indoor season was a good one for the Wildcats, who had athletes competing in eight different at Alumni Gym on the Haverford campus. Villanova hosted the first of three home meets this season and had seven different athletes make their official collegiate debuts during the competition.
