VILLANOVA, Pa. - The men's tennis team competed in four fall events in preparation for the upcoming Spring 2010 season. The TCNJ Fall Kickoff, Brown Invitational, matchup against Delaware and the Old Dominion tournament served as a preview and chance to participate in quality competition as the team prepares for the upcoming spring season.

TCNJ Fall Kickoff, Sept. 11-13: At the TCNJ Fall Kickoff, the Villanova men's tennis team won 10 of 16 total singles matches.

In doubles competition, the Wildcats dominated TCNJ throughout the day and won 6 of 8 matchups.

Brown Invitational, Sept. 18-20:

The Brown Invitational gave the Wildcats the opportunity to compete against some of the best competition in the northeast region.

In #1 singles, Dave Shaheen def. Nick White (Brandeis) 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-1 in the first round. He then defeated Skate Gorham (Brown) 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round. Shaheen then fell to Mike Hill(Brown), 6-2, 6-3.

Alex Lesser also competed in the #1 singles bracket. He fell in the first round to Kendrick Au(Brown) 7-6(4), 7-5 and Cristian Balestrieri (Bryant) in the second round.

At #2 singles, Trent Alenik def. Juan Martin Parades (Bryant) in the first round. He fell thereafter to Andrew Malizia of Dartmouth.

At #3 singles, Mike Taylor fell in the first round to John Nogueras of Colgate. He then went on to win two more matchups in the consolation bracket before falling to Matt Wacks of Hofstra.

At #4 singles, Alex Hanno fell to Erik Kremheller of Fairfield, 6-2, 7-6(6). In the consolation bracket, he fell to John Disley of Hofstra, 6-2, 6-2.

At #5 singles, John Drosick fell to Colgate's Max Segan 2-6, 3-6 and lost his second round consolation game to Andres Orobitg of Bryant. Connor Witty also competed in the #5 singles bracket as well, defeating Nickolai Hill of Bryant 6-4, 7-6(3) and becoming the eventual 1st place finisher in the bracket. En route to his finish, he defeated Alec Goldstein (Colgate) 6-2, 6-4; Ricardo Cardona (UConn) 6-3, 6-4; and Sven Sjoerds (FDU) 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the final game for the bracket.

At #6 singles, John Magliano fell to Ryan Marcil of Bucknell, 6-3, 4-6 (10-8) in the first round. He again fell in the consolation bracket to Robert Kelly of Fairfield, 6-2, 6-7(6); (10-8).

At #7 singles, Liam Bohonnon defeated Brett Byron (Brandeis) 6-3, 6-1; Nic Visinski (UConn) 7-5, 6-3 and faced Clack Bogle of Bucknell in the final match of the bracket. Results were not provided for the final game at #7 singles.

Doubles Competition:

At #1 doubles, Shaheen/Drosick def. D. Hemy/Denny (FDU) 8-3 in the first round. They then fell to Parades/Balestrieri of Bryant, 8-3. The team of Hanna/Taylor also competed in the #1 flight. They fell in their first match to Gorham/Hill (Brown), 7-8. In the consolation bracket, they fell to Tvedt/Wacks of Hofstra, 6-8.

At #2 doubles, the team of Alenik/Lesser def. Rozenshteny/White (Brandeis) 8-5. In the second round, they defeated Centenari/Jacobs (Dartmouth), 8-5, before falling to Yoon/Adams (UConn), 6-8.

At #3 doubles, Magliano/Whitty defeated Tatrsky/Shyu (Brandeis) before falling to Segan/Goldstein of Colgate, 8-1.

vs. Delaware, Sept. 26:

In their first dual match of the 2009-2010 season, the Villanova Wildcats defeated the Blue Hens of Delaware, 5-2, at the Villanova Tennis Complex.

Courtney Scott DEL 6-2, 7-5 No. 4: Trenton Alenik VILL def. Jeff Marshall DEL 6-3, 6-3 No. 5: Alex Hanno VILL def. Nick Piacente DEL 6-4, 6-2 No. 6: Connor Witty VILL def. Camilo Perez 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles: No. 1: David Shaheen/John Drosick VILL def. Longacre/Celik DEL 8-6 No. 2: Scott/Hincker DEL def. Mike Taylor/Alex Hanno VILL 8-4 No. 3: Alex Leeser/Trenton Alenik VILL def. Marshall/Perez DEL 9-7.

Old Dominion Tournament, Sept. 26:

The Old Dominion Tournament provided the Wildcats the opportunity to play in their final fall tune-up before the spring 2010 season.

At #1 singles, Yan Levinski def. Alex Lesser 8-5 In flight "B-1" singles, Mike Taylor def. Cosmin Chiujdea, 8-3, in the first round. In flight "C-1" singles, Camilo Perez def. Andrew Adler, 8-2, in the consolation quarterfinals. In flight "B-2" singles, Greg Vladimirsky def. Alex Hanno, 6-0, 6-3, in the finals. Earlier in the day, Hanno def. Bryan Oakley, 6-4, 6-3.

In flight "A" doubles, Orre/Whiteford def. Drosick/Shaheen, 8-1, in the quarterfinals. They then lost to Gordon/Ramos, 8-1, in the consolation quarterfinals. In flight "B" doubles, Steyn/Wirth def. Hanno/Taylor, 8-4, in the semi-finals. In flight "C" doubles, Alenik/Lesser def. Hardy/Nissinin in the consolation finals due to a forfeit. They won their first round match against McDowel/Sessom, 8-1.
