Men's Tennis Set to Host Villanova Invitational to open fall season

VILLANOVA, Pa.-- Villanova men’s tennis will kick off their 2017 fall campaign here at home when they host the seventh annual Villanova Invitational.  The matches are set to being on Friday, Sept. 15 and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 17. The tournament is a “two-and-one format”, which will feature two single and one doubles match per match-up. Each team that wins two of the three, will advance to the main draw while the other team will compete in the back draw. The tournament will consist of two draws of 16 and a five-team round robin.

Last season at the Villanova Invitational, the Wildcats advanced to the championship round in both the singles and the doubles match. One doubles team won the contest over Wagner, as another player also walked away with a victory in his singles match.

The team ended the 2016-17 season 14-11 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST Conference. During the BIG EAST Conference Championships, where the the Wildcats saw competition in the back draw, eventually dropping the match to Saint John’s, 4-3.

The Wildcats are coached by Brad Adams who enters his 11th season as head coach. Women’s Tennis head coach Steve Reiniger also serves as assistant coach to the men. Alastair Hurry will reutrn as captain of this year's team. The team will return 10 while adding two talented newcomers to the squad this season. With numourous key players returning for the Wildcats, Brad Adams previews the 2017-18 season, "We are coming off a great season last year, both on the courts and in the calssroom so I'm excited to see how far this team will go this season."



2017-18 Schedule: After the Villanova Invitational, they will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Saint Joseph’s Invitational during the weekend of Sept. 22. Next, the Wildcats will remain on the road with a trip to Brown as they will host the New England Invitational from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. Spring play is set to begin on Jan. 27 when they take on UConn at the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club.
