Men's Tennis Hosts 3rd Annual Villanova Invitational to Begin Fall Season
Junior Mark Miller will look to improve on last season's 4-5 tournament singles record.

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's tennis team will play its fall season opener this weekend as it hosts the 3rd Annual Villanova Invitational at the West Campus Tennis Courts. The tournament will kick off at noon Friday and continue at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Joining the Wildcats will be Lafayette, Chestnut Hill and Randolph-Macon Colleges to form two separate draws.

The Main Draw will consist of a 32 player tournament with a "two-and-one" format. The invitational begins with 16 doubles matches which are followed by the doubles competitors facing their opponents from the other team in singles matches. The team that wins at least two of the three contests, advance in the main draw, while the losing team moves to the back draw.

Like last season, Villanova's team captain Thomas O'Brien will join Kelly Donaldson to battle with Sammy Atri and Manuel Ceniceros of Chestnut Hill in match one of the tournament.

The duo of Tim Abbracciamento and Mike Rosengren will contend against Randolph-Macon's Ryan Byrd and Michael Baxter in the third match.

In match four, Mark Miller will team with Chris Cua (Villanova) to take on Chestnut Hill's Yann Pham and A.J. Moore.

Newcomer Bradley Nomes will pair with last season's leading doubles player, Chris Seitz, to vie with Kevin Taylor and Devin Hampton of Chestnut Hill in the sixth match of the afternoon.

Last year's freshman sensation Max Levine will link with senior Ryan Peyton to compete against Randolph-Macon's Connor Hoerr and Brantley Stein in the seventh match.



In all, Chestnut Hill and Villanova comprise of the most players in the field with 10 players each, Randolph-Macon has eight participants and Lafayette will only bring four athletes to the tournament.
