Men's Tennis Announces Incoming Class For Fall
May 9, 2007 Villanova, Pa. - With the 2007 spring season behind them, the Villanova men's tennis team is already looking forward to an exciting fall season. With the anticipation of four incoming freshmen to add to the squad, the Wildcats will look to build on this past year's achievements. Next year's incoming class, comprised of Trenton Alenik, David Shaheen, Mike Miller, and John Drosick, are expected to have an immediate impact on the Villanova program. All four players have made names for themselves at their respective high schools and look to continue their successes under the Villanova banner. "I believe that with the promising recruits we are bringing in for the start of the fall semester, the men's tennis team shows a lot of potential and is moving in the right direction," states head men's tennis coach Brad Adams. Trenton Alenik, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., brings a ton of talent and dedication to the Main Line. His tennis resume boasts an impressive list of achievements, highlighted by reaching a No. 1 ranking in the state of Nevada and No. 162 in singles nationally. Alenik has also experienced success in doubles, ranking a notable No. 43 in the nation and winning the 2004 State Championship. Furthermore, he has placed as high as No. 7 in the Intermountain 6 State Region Section. In addition, Alenik was the recipient of the "Rudy" Ruettiger Sportsmanship Award, as well as the Mike Agassi "No Quit" Award, which mark his two greatest accomplishments off the court. "When I was recruiting, Trenton was a top priority because I knew we could build a great team around him next year," says Adams. Also expected to be a strong force for the Wildcats next season is incoming freshman David Shaheen. Shaheen served as captain of his tennis team at Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Fla., where he competed in the first singles spot to claim the District Championship. He compiled a 20-2 high school record and is the first player in his school's history to clinch the Triple Crown Championship for sweeping all three divisions. Shaheen also garnered All-Palm Beach County honorable mention for his outstanding play and, most recently, defeated a top 30 national competitor. "Dave is the type of impact player that I was looking for to come in and immediately give us a competitive edge," declares Adams. Mike Miller is the final piece of the freshman class that will don the Wildcat uniform in the fall. Miller will make the cross-country trek from Southern California, where he served as his team's captain for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He earned Poway High School tennis team's Most Valuable Player accolade for three years running from his first and second singles spots. Miller also sealed himself a national ranking and held a spot on the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team in 2005 and 2006. "Mike is a solid Southern California player with a lot of talent," claims Adams. "He is a very nice individual and I am looking forward to working with him."
