Tampa, Fla. - After dropping their first Big East Tournament match to No. 1 seed Notre Dame yesterday, Villanova was defeated by DePaul 4-0 this afternoon in Tampa, Fla. Although the No. 8 seed Wildcats did not post a point, freshman Alex Leeser and junior Charlie Farmer managed to defeat DePaul's Dan Wilson and Vanja Grgec in the third doubles spot.

Villanova battled in the first and second doubles positions, but eventually surrendered the point to the Blue Demons. First doubles partners Dimitri Chimerakis and Sean Daly fell just short, dropping their match by an 8-6 margin. The Wildcats also put up a fight in second doubles before losing the match 8-5.

In singles play, Villanova and DePaul only finished three out of six matches. The Blue Demons swept the second, third, and fourth spots to end the match before the remaining spots were completed. The three singles points and early doubles point put the match out of reach for the Wildcats.

Unfortunately, the loss marks the end of the road for the Wildcats. DePaul moves on to play for fifth place as they take on Marquette tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
