- The Villanova men's tennis team competed at the Brown Northeast Tournament Sept. 19-21. In #1 Flight Singles, senior Brian Maher fell in the opening round to Bryan Song from Dartmouth (6-3, 6-3) but advanced to the ninth place final before falling to Andrew Yazmer from Brown (4-6, 6-3, 1-0).

Sophomores Trenton Alenik and David Shaheen competed in the #3 Flight Singles. Both advanced to the semi-finals with Shaheen defeating Bryant's Jose Rodriguez and Alenik falling to Alex Jorne from FDU. Shaheen defeated Jorne in the finals (7-6, 6-3) to take first place in the flight.

Freshmen Mike Taylor and Zack Siegler advanced to the finals of the #4 Flight Singles to compete against each other. Taylor defeated Keiichiro Adachi from FDU to advance (6-2, 6-1), while Siegler won, 6-4, 6-2, in a match against UConn's Scott Warden. In the final Taylor emerged the winner after beating Siegler 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Sophomore John Drosick advanced to the final of the #5 Flight Singles by defeating Tom Cook of UConn, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. Drosick fell to Bryant's Nikoli Hill in a 6-3, 6-2 match to finish second.

Competing for the Wildcats in the #6 Flight Singles was freshman Alex Hanno and junior John Magliano. Magliano finished in sixth place in the flight after falling to Greg Maxon from Bucknell, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0. Hanno won the flight as he defeated Rob Bolcar from Lehigh, 7-6, 6-0.

The doubles tandem of Alex Leeser and Maher advanced to the semi-finals of #1 Flight Doubles, but fell to Harvard, 8-5.

Shaheen and Hanno competed in #2 Flight Doubles where they advanced to the semi-finals by defeating UConn, 8-1 before falling to Bucknell, 9-8. The duo of Drosick and Taylor finished in ninth place in the same flight by beating Alenik and Siegler.

 

 

After rain canceled the match against Drexel on Sept. 28, Villanova will be back on the court Sunday, Oct. 5 to travel to Delaware at 10 a.m. and then host Monmouth at 3 p.m.
