Villanova Tennis Sweeps Through Day One of Haverford Invitational

Haverford, Pa. - The Villanova Men's Tennis team participated in the Haverford Invitational this afternoon, Sept. 22, where they emerged victorious against each of their opponents. Teams participating in the two-day tournament include Fordham University, Muhlenberg College, Philadelphia College of Sciences, Queens College and host Haverford College. The Wildcats received terrific performances from numerous Villanova players, led by junior Ryan Devine who picked up victories in both matches on the day. On the first day of the tournament, Devine, juniors Brad Adams and Andy O'Neill and freshmen Aaron Kusza and Sean Gallagher all picked up victories going 2-0. Adams, playing in the top spot for the 'Cats, defeated players from Haverford and Philadelphia College of Science to improve his individual season record to 6-1. Other Wildcats improving their overall records included Justin Goulet, Andy Herron, Kevin Martens, A.J. Rohde and John Toppel. Ricardo Baraldi and Lucas Kaster both went 1-1 on the afternoon. The Wildcats received stellar play in doubles action taking all nine of their matches from each of their three opponents. Herron and Kusza teamed up at the top doubles position to defeat players from Philadelphia College of Science, 8-2. Adams/Devine and Baraldi/Rohde teamed up as well at the top spot for Villanova to defeat players from Haverford and Philadelphia.
The Wildcats will be back in action for the final day of the Haverford Invitational tomorrow, Sept. 23.
