Adler and Cua Pick Up Wins at Tim Berman Fall Tournament

SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Senior Andrew Adler (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Chris Cua (Wellesley, Mass.) each picked up victories on Saturday morning in the Tim Berman Fall Tournament hosted by Swarthmore at the Faulkner Courts. Villanova has four players in action at this weekend's tournament, which finishes up on Sunday afternoon.
The tournament consists of three different player pools for singles play with a total of nine players competing from the Wildcats, the host Garnet as well as Lafayette. Adler and Cua both defeated an opponent from the Leopards in Pool C play on Saturday morning.
Adler opened up play on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jake Lazer from Lafayette, while Cua later posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lazer. The results of those two matches wound up pitting Adler and Cua against each other in an afternoon match that Adler won by a 6-4, 6-1 margin.
Sophomore Joseph Monaldo (Overland Park, Kan.) and senior Kyle Grandin (Round Rock, Texas) played on Saturday in Pool A and Pool B, respectively. Monaldo lost a pair of matches to Brian Stefanowicz of Lafayette (6-3, 6-0) and Malik Mubeen of Swarthmore (6-0, 6-1), while Grandin fell to Brian Pinkard of the Leopards (6-1, 7-6) and James Wieler of the Garnet (6-4, 6-3).
In doubles action Grandin and Cua were narrowly defeated by a 9-8 margin by Mubeen and Wieler. Adler and Monaldo dropped an 8-3 decision to Pinkard and Lazer.
