Colonnese, Miranda and Rosengren Advance to Semifinals in Day Two of Saint Joseph's Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Villanova men's tennis team returned to the courts Saturday morning and walked away with seven singles victories on day two of the Saint Joseph's Invitational. Three Wildcat players advanced to the semifinals Sunday morning with a pair of victories in their respective first two matches.
"I was pleased with the way Colonnese, Miranda and Rosengren came out today," Villanova head coach Brad Adams said. "They need to play with the same intensity tomorrow morning if they want to continue to be successful."
In the Flight II draw, Mike Rosengren scored a pair of victories to advance to the semifinals Sunday slated for an 8:30 a.m. start time. In an intense first match, Rosengren edged Xabier Saavedra of Drexel, 6-7 (3), 6-3, (10-5). The junior went on to dominate La Salle's Dale Fetterman, 6-1, 6-1.
After a first round bye, Matt Colonnese slid past Drexel's Paul Stauskas, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (0), in a back and forth match. The senior then defeated USMA's David Proctor, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the Flight III semifinals, which is slated for an 8:30 a.m. start time Sunday morning.
Newcomer Luis Miranda eased his way past Saint Joseph's Clark Ruiz, 6-3, 6-3, in round one of the Flight IV singles draw. The freshman would then beat Blake Dantzler of Delaware, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
Joseph Monaldo was victorious over La Salle's Mark Robinson, 6-4, 6-7 (0), (10-7), before falling in the second round of the Flight IV singles draw.
Villanova will return to the courts Sunday morning to play in both singles and doubles matches to conclude the Saint Joseph's Invitational.
