Wildcats Score 11 Singles Victories on Second Day at Saint Joseph's Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--Only singles matches were played on the second day of competition at the Saint Joseph's Invitational and Villanova came away with 11 victories for the day in matches played at the Finnesey and Maguire courts on Saturday afternoon. When action was halted on Saturday the Wildcats had already seen three players advance to the semifinals of their respective singles flights, while two others were alive in the quarterfinals. Overall the 11 wins for Villanova on Saturday included nine wins in the main draw brackets and two consolation bracket victories.
Freshman Chris Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) won two matches in the Flight 2 singles draw to advance to a semifinal matchup on Sunday morning. He opened play with a come-from-behind victory over Kelly Morque of Bucknell in the second round, winning 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) to advance in the bracket. Seitz then scored a straight sets win over Dan Barrus of the host Hawks by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (5). He faces Nolan Gelman of Delaware in a semifinal match at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
In the Flight 3 bracket sophomore Michael Rosengren (Sharon, Mass.) and freshman Max Levine (Lubbock, Texas) are both in the semifinals after scoring two wins in as many matches on Saturday. Rosengren was steady in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jonathan DeFrancesch of Bucknell and then finished strong in a 7-6 (5), 6-0 victory over Ryan Kent of Delaware. He next plays Paul Stauskas of Drexel in the semifinals. Levine will have to wait out a match on Sunday morning to see who his next opponent will be but he has already guaranteed himself a semifinal spot after defeating Joey Hatala of Army (6-4, 6-0) and Josh Katten of Bucknell (6-4, 6-2).
Junior Matt Colonnese (Marietta, Ga.) and sophomore Kelly Donaldson (Broomfield, Colo.) are playing in the Flight 4 singles draw and both picked up wins in their only matches Saturday afternoon. Colonnese knocked off Sam Cadwell of Saint Joseph's (6-2, 7-5) and Donaldson recorded identical set scores in beating Alex Sweet of Delaware. Quarterfinal round matches in Flight 4 get underway on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
When action resumes on Sunday morning the remaining matches in the main draw of each singles bracket will take place on the Maguire Courts while consolation matches are played on the Finnesey Courts. Following the conclusion of play in each singles bracket the remaining doubles matches will be contested.

The final results of this weekend's tournament will be available on Sunday night once all play has come to an end.
