Villanova, Pa. --- On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season defeating Millersville 6-1. Five different Wildcats picked up wins in singles action while the 'Cats swept all three doubles matches. Villanova improves to 1-0 with the win and drops Millersville to 0-1 on the season.
In singles play, senior Brad Adams led the Wildcats at the No. 1 post tallying a 6-2, 6-1 win over Keith Mahaffes. Classmate Ryan Devine was also victorious with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at third singles while Ricardo Baraldi notched a 6-2, 6-0 win over Brandon Kessler at No. 4 singles. At the fifth and sixth singles position, rookie Carl Fenzl and Andy O'Neil beat their opponents in straight sets as well.
Adams and sophomore Aaron Kusza led Villanova in doubles action at the No. 1 spot with an 8-1 score while junior John Topple and Justin Goulet were victorious at second doubles. Sophomore Sean Gallagher and freshman Brenden Mahoney rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 win at the third spot.
Villanova will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22 when they travel to Haverford, Pa. for the Haverford Invitational.
