VILLANOVA, Pa. - Three pairs from the Villanova men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals after excellent play Saturday during day two of the 3rd Annual Villanova Invitational at the West Campus Tennis Courts. Villanova was joined by players from Chestnut Hill, Randolph-Macon and Lafayette Colleges.
With a "two and one" format, all four Wildcats pairs left advanced past the second round of the tournament and three teams would make it to the quarterfinals by winning two out of three matches Saturday afternoon.
Tom O'Brien and Kelly Donaldson exerted their dominance in day two with a pair of victories in round two. In round three, the duo defeated Chestnut Hill's Yann Pham and
A.J. Moore, 8-3. O'Brien then defeated Moore, 6-4, 6-1, to capture the victory and advance to play on Sunday.
Mark Miller and Joe Monaldo took down Brian Pinkard and Chris Matturri in doubles action, 8-6. The Wildcats would secure the victory and advance when Miller beat Pinkard, 6-2, 6-3.
After the duos of Ryan Peyton, Max Levine and Chris Seitz, Bradley Noyes defeated their respected opponents to get past the second round, the Wildcats players would face each other for a shot at the quarterfinals.
The young guns, Seitz and Bradley would take down Peyton and Levine, 8-4 in doubles play. In a back-and-forth match between the teammates, Levine would edge the freshman, Bradley (6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-5). However, Seitz would capture his team's win with a 6-3, 6-0 domination over Peyton.
The Wildcats return to the courts Sunday at 8:30 a.m. to conclude the Villanova Invitational with quarterfinals action taking place.
