Two Pairs For Wildcats Advance to Semifinals at Villanova Invitational

VILLANOVA, Pa. - In second round action at the Villanova Invitational on Saturday afternoon two doubles pairs from Villanova advanced to the semifinals at the West Campus Tennis Courts. Overall the Wildcats were victorious in three of their four matchups on Saturday and are guaranteed to have three of its doubles tandems finish in the top eight at this weekend's tournament.
The pair of freshman Chris Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) and junior Ryan Peyton (Newport Beach, Calif.) won their doubles match against opponents from Chestnut Hill and then each won their singles matches in straight sets to earn a semifinal berth. Seitz and Peyton teamed up for an 8-5 win over Mike Humes and Steven Say in the doubles portion of the matchup. Seitz swept Humes in singles play (6-0, 6-3) and Peyton defeated Say by a count of 6-0, 7-5.
Also reaching the semifinals for Villanova is the team of junior Thomas O'Brien (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Kelly Donaldson (Broomfield, Colo.). They won all three of their matches against Brant Switzler and Jason Prezant of Monmouth, beginning with an 8-4 victory in doubles play. O'Brien clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win over Switzler and Donaldson rallied past Prezant for a 4-6, 6-4 (10-5) win.
The sophomore tandem of Michael Rosengren (Sharon, Mass.) and Tim Abbracciamento (Robbinsville, N.J.) were also playing in the second round main draw on Saturday and they were swept in three matches by Freddy Marcinkowski and Ramy Bekheit of Monmouth. The score of the doubles match was 8-4 and Marcinkowski posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Rosengren to clinch the match. Abbracciamento took Bekheit to three sets before falling 7-5, 5-7 (10-8).
In the back draw of the tournament the Wildcats scored a 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill. Sophomore Mark Miller (Englewood, Colo.) and freshman Max Levine (Lubbock, Texas) can finish as high as fifth in the final tournament standings after they defeated Manuel Ceniceros and Sammy Atri. They won their doubles match by an 8-5 count and easily took the singles matches that followed. Miller defeated Ceniceros (6-2, 6-0) and Levine topped Atri (6-1, 6-0).
A secondary bracket in this weekend's tournament features round-robin play between two Villanova pairs and a doubles team from Chestnut Hill. In the matches played on Saturday the Wildcats defeated Chestnut Hill, 3-0, behind senior Andrew Adler (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore Joseph Monaldo (Overland Park, Kan.). After an 8-2 win in the doubles match against Sim Heeren and Stephan Wolfert one singles match was played and Monaldo shut out Wolfert in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Adler won by default against Heeren.
The final two rounds of the tournament will be played on Sunday, beginning with the third round in the morning and continuing later in the afternoon with the final round to determine final tournament standings for each doubles pair.
