Wildcats Falter In Final Spring Season Match
April 25, 2007
Villanova, Pa. - After returning home empty-handed from the Big East Championships in Tampa, Fla. this past weekend, Villanova dropped its final match of the 2007 spring season to UMBC by a score of 7-0. The Wildcats struggled to gain any sort of momentum yesterday afternoon resulting in a failure to put any points on the board. To start things off, Villanova surrendered all three matches in doubles play to fall behind 1-0 early in the match. Juniors Scott Fahrendorf and Dimitri Chimerakis put forth valiant efforts in the first and second singles spots. However, UMBC rallied to defeat Villanova and seal the intial two points in singles play. The Wildcats then dropped the final four spots, allowing the Retrievers to secure the 7-0 victory. Although this marks the end of the season for Villanova, the Wildcats are already looking forward to the fall. Villanova will return with its entire roster and plans to bring in a strong freshman class. VILLANOVA 0, UMBC 7 Singles: 1.) Irfan Shamasdin (UMBC) def. Scott Fahrendorf (VU) 7-6(3), 4-6, 12-10 2.)
