Wildcats Cap off Regular Season on a High Note

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Before the Villanova men's tennis team (5-16) opens with No. 70 St. John's Friday at the BIG EAST Championships, the Wildcats took the court on the road at Fairfield (10-9) and was able to end the season on a high note defeating the Stags 4-2 at the Walsh Athletic Tennis Center in Tuesday afternoon's season finale.
Both squads chose the option to forgo the doubles matches and determine the result with only singles play.
Matt Colonnese (Marietta, Ga.) got the Wildcats out in front with an easy 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Bjorn Merinder at the No. 6 flight.
Shortly after, Bradley Noyes (Marblehead, Mass.) collected the second victory at the No. 3 slot. The freshman breezed past Dennis Zlobinsky, 6-2, 6-2.
At the No. 5 position, Michael Rosengren (Sharon, Mass.) made it three points with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Peter Colliard.
Tim Abbracciamento (Robbinsville, N.J.) secured the fifth victory of the season with a comeback victory from the No. 3 spot. The junior downed Cameron Amyot, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Wildcats will look to embark in its first BIG EAST title beginning Friday, April 25 against No. 1 St. John's in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The tournament, hosted by the Red Storm is set to run for four days as the schedule has yet to be determined.
