Wildcats Rally Past Fairfield in 4-3 Victory

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore Tim Abbracciamento (Robbinsville, N.J.) won his No. 6 singles match in straight sets to clinch the team result as Villanova (11-8) edged Fairfield (9-6) by a final score of 4-3 at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. After trailing the match 2-1 following the completion of the first two singles matches the Wildcats had the upper hand in the next three matches to finish and secured their fifth consecutive win.
Abbracciamento withstood a challenge from Cameron Amyot in the first set at No. 6 singles before pulling out a 7-6 (7-5) victory. He then went on to sweep the second set, 6-0, to earn the win. Villanova also was victorious at the top two spots in singles play after beginning the match by claiming the doubles point.
Junior Thomas O'Brien (Guilford, Conn.) defeated George Tioutine at No. 1 singles by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4, while freshman Chris Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Ian Tesmond in a No. 2 singles contest. O'Brien and sophomore Kelly Donaldson (Broomfield, Colo.) teamed up at No. 1 doubles and defeated Dennis Zlobinsky and Ofir Solomon by an 8-4 margin.
The match at No. 2 doubles clinched the early team point for the Wildcats, who had junior Matt Colonnese (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Max Levine (Lubbock, Texas) pull out an 8-6 win against Tesmond and Amyot.
