Wildcats Edged by Rutgers

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Ricardo Baraldi and Sean Gallagher won their singles matches for the Wildcats, but Rutgers took the remaining four and it was enough to barely edge the Wildcats, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex. With the loss, Villanova falls to 4-8 on the season and 0-2 in the Big East, while Rutgers improves to 3-5, 1-0. Baraldi picked up a three set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Matthew Fawcett, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Gallagher had the only other singles win for the Wildcats, winning a three-set match over Gabe Adams, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0. Aaron Kusza, Dimitri Chimerakis, Angel Rubio and Scott Fahrendorf each dropped their singles matches, but Kusza and Baraldi teamed up for a No. 1 doubles win, defeating Tyler Deming and Gordie Milchutsky, 8-6. The Wildcats took the No. 3 doubles match as well, as Fahrendorf and Tony Soruco defeated Arjun Vaidya and Alex Tervooren, 8-4. Rutgers won its No. 2 doubles match over Gallacher and Chimerakis. Villanova returns to action on Saturday, April 2, when it heads to Chestnut Hill, Mass to face Boston College for more conference action. The Wildcats will also face UConn on Sunday, April 3 in Storrs, Conn. Both matches will begin at 11 a.m.
