Men's Tennis Falls to Maryland
March 15, 1998 In men's tennis action in College Park, Maryland on Saturday, March 14, the Maryland Terrapins defeated the Villanova Wildcats by a score of 5-2. With the loss, Villanova falls to 7-2 on the season. Villanova's two wins were recorded at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. At No. 2, senior Rob Campbell downed Kyle Cerminara in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). With the win, Campbell improves to 7-1 on the season. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Rob Waibel remained undefeated on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Maryland's Luan Nguyen. Waibel has played No. 4, 5 and 6 singles this year and is a perfect 8-0. Senior Jay Kennedy lost a hard-fought, three-set match to Larry Chou. Chou won the opening set, 6-4, before Kennedy earned a thrilling 7-6 win in set number two. In the third and deciding set, Chou recorded a 6-3 victory.
