Villanova Falls at William and Mary
Feb. 15, 2014
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Following a pair of cancelled matches due to inclement weather, the Villanova men's tennis team returned to action in Williamsburg, Va. and dropped a 5-2 decision Saturday afternoon to William and Mary at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
The Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the young season, while the Tribe improves their record to 7-6. Despite the early woes, head coach Brad Adams believes this squad has the ability to bounce back from tough starts.
Last season, Villanova started the season losing three straight and five of its first six matches before finishing the year strong, which included 12 wins in its final 15 matches.
William and Mary took an early lead with a complete sweep in all three doubles contests to earn the first point of the afternoon.
The Wildcats would then fall in each of the first four positions to push the Tribe past .500 for the year. Will Juggins secured the victory after defeating senior Ryan Peyton, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 slot.
Kelly Donaldson earned his first singles victory of the year after edging Addison Appleeby, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot to put Villanova on the board.
At the No. 6 position, Michael Rosengren and Austin Davidow split the first two sets before Rosengren won a back-and-forth tie break set, 11-9, to give the Wildcats their second point against the Tribe.
Villanova will return to action Feb. 27 when the Wildcats make their way to the West Coast to play several matches during spring break.
