Villanova hosted Monmouth on Tuesday, April 2 at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
Career: Earned All-BIG EAST accolades after finishing with a "20-20" season in 2013, ending with 20 wins in both singles and doubles play ... Through the end of career had records of 59-60 (.496) in singles and 81-51 (.614) in doubles ... Led all members of the team in career singles and doubles wins ... As a doubles player, went 51-36 in dual matches and 30-15 in tournaments ... All but two of the doubles dual match victories have come at the No. 1 spot ... As a singles player, finished 25-9 in tournaments and 34-51 in dual matches ... The majority of his dual match victories (30) have come at the top spot in the lineup, where he ended 34-51 during his career.
Spring 2014: Playing against all the top-opponents from each team, posted a 6-10 mark in singles action ... Joined Kelly Donaldson to go 7-10 at the top doubles flight in dual competition.
Fall 2013: Capped off his best tournament season as a Wildcat to date with an 8-1 mark in singles action and a perfect 11-0 record in doubles play ... The eight singles victories and 11 doubles wins are team-highs for the fall ... Joined Kelly Donaldson and did not drop a set en route to a Villanova Invitational Doubles Championship, Flight I Doubles Championship at the Saint Joseph's Invitational and a Flight A Doubles Championship at the Quinnipiac Invitational.
Spring 2013: Garnered All-BIG EAST honors after playing at the No. 1 singles and doubles slots throughout the year ... O'Brien had a "20-20" season for the Wildcats, as he reached the 20-win plateau in both singles and doubles action for the season ... Along with Kelly Donaldson, the duo combined for second on the team with 15 wins and only seven losses at the No. 1 doubles slot ... In head to head competition at the No. 1 spot, he finished second on the team with a 12-10 record despite facing the opponents best competition on a weekly basis.
Fall 2012: Enjoyed an excellent fall season in which he tied for the team lead with eight victories in singles ... He and doubles partner Kelly Donaldson also led the team with eight wins in doubles matches ... Overall went 8-3 for the fall in singles and 8-4 in doubles ... Reached the championship match in the top singles flight at the Quinnipiac Invitational and went 3-1 at the tournament ... He and Donaldson were the doubles runners-up at the Saint Joseph's Invitational and also came in fourth at the Villanova Invitational.
2011-12: Held down the No. 1 spot in the team's lineup in both singles and doubles action in dual matches ... Overall for the season had records of 14-13 in singles and 18-13 in doubles ... As a singles player he was 10-11 in dual matches and 4-2 in tournaments ... Played exclusively at the top singles spot in the lineup and was the only Villanova player to play at No. 1 singles during the season ... Had two win streaks of three straight matches during the season ... Went 13-9 in dual matches in doubles play, all with teammate Kelly Donaldson ... Also was 5-4 in tournaments and he and Donaldson advanced to the Consolation Round of 16 at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship ... The pair played exclusively at No. 1 doubles in dual matches ... Scored a win over Connecticut to help Villanova win the team points, and eventually the match, in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship ... Won four straight matches from March 10-28 against Whittier, William & Mary, Saint Joseph's and Bucknell.
2010-11: Made an immediate impact on the team as one of the top Villanova doubles players ... Compiled a record of 21-15 in doubles for the season, including 15-9 in dual matches and 6-6 in tournaments ... Played mostly at the No. 1 doubles spot in the lineup and was 13-7 there ... Also went 1-1 at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions ... Won his final five doubles matches of the season with teammate Trenton Alenik ... He and Alenik finished as the doubles runners-up at the Quinnipiac Invitational and also won the consolation draw at the Saint Joseph's Invitational ... Had a combined record of 5-2 at those two tournaments ... As a singles player was 11-21 for the season, including 5-3 in tournaments and 6-18 in dual matches ... Played at each of the top four spots in the lineup ... Scored two wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and one victory at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots.
Fairfield Prep: Earned four varsity letters ... Played No. 1 singles his junior and senior seasons ... Team captain ... Earned MVP honors in 2009 and 2010 ... 2009 doubles state champion and 2010 state singles finalist ... 2010 Southern Connecticut Conference regular season and postseason MVP ... Three-time All-SCC performer (2008-10) and two-time all-state selection (2009-10) ... Recorded a 72-11 career record and went 18-0 in his senior season ... Also lettered in basketball.
USTA: Ranked in the top eight in New England for the '16' and '18' age groups ... Ranked in the top 260 nationally for Boys 18 and under ... Ranked in the top five in New England for doubles in the '16' and '18' age groups ... National open doubles finalist in 2008 ... Recieved the 2008 Sportsmanship Award for the USTA New England Zonals Team ... Reached as high as 106 nationally in doubles for the u-18 division.
